Ferguson settles on Foster as Man Utd number one

Sir Alex Ferguson has named Ben Foster as Manchester United’s first team goalkeeper for the start of the season, reports the Daily Mail.

Ferguson has opted to play Foster ahead of Poland’s Tomasz Kuszczak for United’s Community Shield curtain-raiser against Chelsea and promised him that a good performance will be rewarded with a run in the team while first-choice Edwin van der Sar recovers from a broken finger.

Ferguson said: "Deep down I think Ben Foster will be England’s goalkeeper but I know he needs to play for us for that to happen.

"I don’t want the boy to miss the opportunity of playing for his country."
