Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has discussed signing Chelsea winger Joe Cole with his board.
The People says Ferguson has spoken with the club's hierarchy about a move for Cole who is out of favour at Stamford Bridge - and out of contract this summer.
Sources close to Cole say the 28-year-old star is excited at the prospect of reviving his career under Ferguson, a manager who has admired him for 15 years.
Ferguson tried to nick Cole from West Ham while he was a schoolboy but was thwarted by the refusal of Harry Redknapp - then Hammers boss - to sell the talented youngster.
But Fergie has remained an admirer - and now the United chief has his best-ever chance of landing the Chelsea midfielder for nothing this summer.

It's not about transfer fees that matters, it's about value 4 money. You have 2b prudent in ur spending given the global economic climate. Big money signing doesn't guarantee that he will fit into the system i.e winning mentality. In short Quality must b well above the money. Does it's makes sense???
minusing his transfer fee(15mil) and paying for his demanded wages...i think its possible to have him at OT
its not bad if we have him on a free.infact i beleive he will be worth more valuabale to us than berba who ?30m down the drain.go for him saf
