Steve Clarke is emerging as a contender for the assistant manager's job at Birmingham City.

The Daily Mail says the former Chelsea and West Ham number two is understood to have spoken to Alex McLeish following Roy Aitken’s move to Dubai side Al Ahli.

McLeish suffered a blow when first-choice Ricky Sbragia decided to remain at Sunderland. Clarke has strong credentials from his time at Chelsea and working for Gianfranco Zola at West Ham.
