Ex-Sydney captain Corica wants Fowler
Recently retired Sydney FC captain Steve Corica has urged the club to aggressively chase the signature of ex-Liverpool star Robbie Fowler.
The North Queensland Fury skipper has been heavily linked with a move to the reigning A-League champions and Corica wants to see that the Sky Blues seriously go after him as a replacement for departed striker John Aloisi among other key players who have left.
"He scored nine or 10 goals last year playing with the Fury so I'm sure if we can do well again next year (Fowler) will score a bundle if he comes to Sydney," Corica, who is now a member of Sydney's coaching staff, told Sportal.
"He's obviously a fantastic player but I think he would also be perfectly suited to the way we play.
"He's very good on the ball and there's not many better finishes than him around.
"We've got a few players missing for next season and obviously we're going to have to replace them with the right players.
"If we can get players like him to come in I think it's a great replacement."
And Corica believes that a player of Fowler’s quality would get a lot of people coming to the Sydney Football Stadium to watch the club.
"He's marquee player, he's from England and we've got a lot of English supporters in Sydney," the 37-year old added.
"If you want to get the crowds in I think he's a great way of doing it ... he'd put bums on seats really."
