Ex-Rangers star Ferguson takes over as senior coach at Perth Glory
Former Rangers midfielder Ian Ferguson has taken the reigns as senior coach at A-League club Perth Glory.
Ferguson, who joined the Glory as assistant from North Queensland Fury at the start of the season, replaces Dave Mitchell in the role.
Mitchell will now become the club’s Director of Football with both appointments going through until the end of the 2011/12 seasons.
“I have been contemplating this move for some time with Chairman Tony Sage, and am proud where the club is today, compared to when I first came to Perth Glory,” Mitchell said.
“The fans have been great and have come back in their droves.
“We have built a squad which can now compete and play attractive football with the infrastructure in place to challenge for a title.
“I have a deep passion for recruiting and utilizing my global networks to bring success to Perth Glory.
“I thank Tony Sage for his backing and the opportunity to continue to grow our Perth Glory.”
Both appointments are effective immediately giving Ferguson the chance to lead the club into battle for the first time against former club the Fury on Friday.
