North Queensland Fury has lost head coach Ian Ferguson who has joined A-League rivals Perth Glory as assistant.

The former Rangers midfielder spent the club’s first season in charge of the Fury but after plenty of speculation has now teamed up with fellow Scottish-born tactician Dave Mitchell in Western Australia.

Ferguson guided the Fury to seventh on the table in the 2009/10 season but during the off-season things began to look down as the Townsville-based club experienced financial difficulty and then was recently taken over by Football Federation Australia.

Ferguson did not believe he had a future with North Queensland and with the transfer of ownership becoming official, decided it was the perfect time to leave.

The 43-year old was a star with Scottish club Rangers in the 1980s and ‘90s, winning ten league titles, and also played with Clyde, St Mirren and Dunfermline. He coached another A-League club, Central Coast Mariners, in 2005/06.
