Ex-North Queensland Fury chief Matheson slams former coach Ferguson

Ex-North Queensland Fury owner Don Matheson has blasted the club’s inaugural coach Ian Ferguson.

Replying to comments made by Ferguson about how he was treated at the Fury, Matheson said that the hardest thing he had to do when involved with the franchise was work with Ferguson.

“The hardest process during my time at the Fury was working with Ian Ferguson," Matheson told AAP.

"This is a community club and Ian simply did just not get it.

"This was a bad time and a bad club for a guy with his mentality. I am sure he has some great attributes but it didn't suit what we wanted.

"I have no interest in what Ian has to say.

"I think it best if Ian just moves on and concentrates on where he is heading."

Ferguson has since moved on to become assistant coach at Perth Glory whilst the Fury brought in Czech tactician Franz Straka who was praised by Matheson.

"What I hear from the boys (Fury players), they have a massive amount of respect for the coach (Straka) - that's a change," he added.

"The game needs characters, and he is obviously an outstanding coach."
