Departing Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro has explained his reasons for moving to Dubai with Al Ahli.

The Italy captain retired from international football after the World Cup and, as his contract with Juventus was not renewed, accepted a switch to Al-Ahli.

“It wasn’t an economic choice, but a lifestyle one that I discussed and decided on with my family,” he said at his presentation Press conference today.

“There isn’t the same pressure here as in the leagues I’ve played in so far in my career.

“I would like to help young players to grow, giving them the right advice so they can have a brilliant future.”

However, Cannavaro did not disguise the fact he would’ve stayed in Italy if hometown club Napoli had offered him a place.

“I grew up in Naples and it would’ve been a great way to end my career with their shirt on my back, but unfortunately our plans were different.

“I am nonetheless happy to have come to Dubai. It is a positive choice for me and my family.”
