Everton fullback Baines: Capello does have an aura

Everton fullback Leighton Baines now understands what players mean by the presence of England coach Fabio Capello.

Baines made his full England debut a fortnight ago in the friendly win over Egypt.

On Capello, he told the Daily Mail: "He walks in and the room goes quiet. It's difficult to explain, but he has that presence. He's not one for wasting words, but he doesn't have to say much. There is a real aura about him that makes everyone sit up and take notice.

"It could have been a nerve-racking experience, going down and playing for the first time, but his approach to handling players helped relax me. I only found out I was playing shortly before we left the hotel, and all he said was to play the way I always did for my club and I would be fine. He probably sensed I had enough to contend with and he made a point of keeping it simple.

"That first appearance is always the most testing, so to know no-one was expecting anything out of the ordinary helped me cope. I just concentrated on making a steady start, and the manager seemed pleased enough afterwards. He told us all it was important to have turned the game around and won... I think he likes to keep you on your toes."
