Everton easily account for Sigma Olomouc in Europe
Everton kicked off their Europa qualifying with a comfortable 4-0 win over Czech outfit Sigma Olomouc.
French striker Louis Saha opened up the scoring for the Toffees at Goodison Park with a goal in the 34th minute after a Marouane Fellaini cross allowed him to get ahead of Petr Drobisz in goals.
The lead was shortly doubled when teenage sensation Jack Rodwell thundered home a 20-yard shot six minutes later after the ball fell to him from a Leighton Banes free-kick that hit the wall.
Rodwell showed his untapped potential when he netted again, less than minutes after the break.
This time it was a striker form 25 yards which came about after Steven Pienaar knocked it back into his path after another Banes free-kick wasn’t cleared.
The rout was complete when Saha grabbed his second with a superb finish after being set up by Leon Osman.
Toffees boss David Moyes was full of praise for Rodwell after the match.
''Jack has great potential and we hope he will go on to fulfil it. We will bring him along in the right way,” Moyes said.
''He has a bit to go yet. We will use him in the games we see fit. Tonight he showed he is a very good player. He is excellent in a lot of European football and a lot of international football with his composure on the ball.
''He controlled parts of the game at different times. What I did not know was he was such a good shooter in scoring these goals.
''I know he strikes a lovely ball but I haven't really seen him rattle the back of the net like he did tonight.''
