Everton defender Distin: Portsmouth failed ownership needs scrutiny

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has sympathy for former club Portsmouth.

Distin spent two years at Fratton Park, winning his first major honour in English football, the FA Cup, in the 2007/08 season.

"It is so complicated there. I can now step back from it but I still don't understand what has happened and it is a shame," Distin told evertonTV.

"I thought when someone goes to buy a club that their assets are looked through so I don't understand what happened. I thought the regulations were tough already.

"In France it is impossible for things like this to happen because they look through everything," he explained. "If you don't meet the standards then you can't buy the club.

"The regulations have to be clearer here for the fans to know what goes on."
