Ellis wants Smith to stay as Rangers manager

Andrew Ellis wants to keep Walter Smith at Rangers.

The Daily Record says the priority of the Ellis group, who have opened Rangers takeover talks with owners Murray International Holdings, will be to persuade Smith to stay. It is also believed the group, RFC Holdings, will target Kris Boyd and other key players who will be out of contract at the end of this season.

London-based property developer Ellis and the people behind him who want to buy Rangers know it would be folly to let Smith escape. He is leading Rangers to a second successive SPL title and his value to the club is clear for everyone to see.

Sources in the south also say every effort will be made to keep top scorer Boyd and attempts will be made to tie down the likes of Nacho Novo and Kirk Broadfoot.
