Di Matteo urges caution from West Brom supporters

West Bromwich Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo has asked Baggies supporters not to get too carried away after a better-than-expected start to the season.

West Bromwich Albion boss Roberto Di Matteo has asked Baggies supporters not to get too carried away after a better-than-expected start to the season.

Albion are sixth after six games, with their most recent result a stunning 3-2 win away to Arsenal last weekend.

They take on Bolton on Saturday and Di Matteo insists it will be just as tough a game as last week's trip to the Emirates Stadium was.

He told the club's official website: "I hope the fans don't get carried away by the Arsenal result.

"I hope they understand our position and see that Bolton is a difficult game. It's one of the teams that is a competitor, even though they've been in the Premier League for many years.

"If we want to have a good season we need to be competitive against teams like them."

Di Matteo hailed the efforts of Bolton counterpart Owen Coyle to change his side's style of play, having built a reputation as a very direct side.

"The way Bolton play is a bit of a mix," the former Chelsea midfielder added.

"They can go very direct, as they have been for many years. They're trying to mix it up and I think Owen Coyle has said that.

"It will take time for the club to match his philosophy - as happens when you go to a club who are used to something different."
