David Silva: I did not join Man City for money

Manchester City signing David Silva insists money wasn't the major factor in convincing him about moving to Eastlands.

Life at the world’s richest club is certainly a far cry from the Mestalla, where his father is the chief safety officer, but Silva dismissed suggestions that he is only here for the money.

"I was aware of the problems at Valencia," he told the Daily Mail. "Things were all over the place. At one point we weren’t even getting paid, and construction on the new stadium stopped. The time came when they had to sell players like me and David Villa.

"But there is no problem with the salaries on offer here. If someone is prepared to pay that because they want you as part of their project, that’s fine. We’re just doing our job.

"Money is not the main issue. What’s important is trying to win trophies and get in the Champions League next season."
