Da Silva targets regular first team berth with Sunderland

Defender Paulo Da Silva wants to establish himself as a regular in Sunderland's line-up.

The Paraguay international, who joined the Black Cats last year, has reportedly attracted interest from a number of clubs on the back of his World Cup performances.

"After some days of having some rest I am going back to England with a big expectation of starting the season," said the 30 year old.

"I am going to join the team in the training sessions and trying to get myself a place in the team."

Da Silva is anxious not to rely too much on his display in South Africa, adding, "You can't live thinking about the past.

"I know that there have been positive comments about me in the club but it depends on the coach if he is going to have me in consideration or not."

The stopper insists Sunderland are not looking to let him go this summer, but he has not completely ruled out a move.

He said: "I also know that there have been some proposals, that some offers arrived at the club for me but I think that the club doesn't have in mind letting me go as the league is about to begin.

"But if an offer arrives and it's something useful for the club and for me, then maybe we'll have some talks."
