Gold Coast United’s marquee man Jason Culina was delighted for young striker Bruce Djite after he scored his maiden goal for the club yesterday.

Djite’s 45th minute header enabled his side to record a 1-1 draw with Sydney FC in Week 8 of the season and Culina said it was a well-deserved reward for the former Genclerbirligi man.

“I knew he would," he said. "He's been peppering at the goal in the last couple of weeks.

"He deserves it. He's been working very hard and every striker deserves a goal so I'm glad he's got one now."

United coach Miron Bleiberg echoed Culina’s sentiments: "Bruce got to score his first goal and there's many more to come.

"Since Bruce joined us we're defending much better, we've conceded one goal in four games, if we continue like this it'll be okay. I'm happy and satisfied."
