Coventry resigned to losing striker Best
Coventry chairman Ray Ranson is expecting to receive bids for Leon Best in the January transfer window.
The Coventry striker is out of contract next summer and discussions over the terms of a new deal are some way apart.
"I fully expect to get offers for him (in January), but if Leon Best turns around to us and says he wants to sign a new contract and doesn't want to leave Coventry City then nobody would be more pleased than me," Ranson told Sky Blues player.
The club risk losing him for a minimal compensation fee next June while there are believed to be plenty of suitors keen to acquire his services in the forthcoming transfer window, when he will be free to talk to any interested parties.
Ranson added: "We're in negotiations with representatives, in Keiren Westwood's case and Aron Gunnarsson's case since the end of last season. We've been discussing with Leon's agent about an extension, his contract is not up until the summer but we'd like to get it tied up as soon as possible, if it is possible."
But asked about a repeat of the sales of Scott Dann and Danny Fox, Ranson also warned: "If Premier League clubs and the likes come knocking on our door and want to buy them and the players want to go, there is not much we can do about it. We can insist that they're not going anywhere but we're then left with a very, very unhappy player. Player power is massive."
