After scoring against Birmingham City, Newcastle striker Michael Owen says fans will never see him hiding during games.

Owen said: "When you miss a chance, you never think about it during the game. If you dwell on it, you won't be in a position to score the next one. I've always said if I miss a chance, I'll never hide.

"But now the game's finished, when you do dwell on it, you wonder whether I should have tried to pretend to put the ball one way, or gone round the keeper, but at least I've hit the target, and the keeper's made a good save.

"On another day, it'll go in, and thankfully I've managed to nick one and redeem myself. All in all, with the chances we had, scoring one goal was a fair return, and it was the same for them, as they didn't trouble Steve Harper so much.

"I think the draw was a fair result on the night, but we were the team which had all the quality. We're optimistic, and everyone's pleased we got a point. These are the places we should be at least getting a draw.

"At least it has given us something to build on. It was a decent performance, and it keeps Birmingham below us. When you play teams below you in the league, it's very important you don't lose. At the start of the week, we would have taken a draw away at Birmingham, but we need the win on Saturday to make it four points.

"We aim to finish the season with everyone saying 'what were we worried about?'"
