Jones told Boro's website: "The coaches have said that we've both done well and they're happy with both us, so obviously it was going to be difficult for whoever wasn't going to play.

"I'm glad I played and hopefully I can have a run now.

The summer speculation surrounding the goalkeeping situation did not go unnoticed with Jones, but he feels with good performances he can show the fans that he's the answer to the dilemma.

"Hopefully, if I get a run, I can prove to the fans that I'm deserving of a place. I know it's obviously difficult for them to see someone who hasn't played come into the side.

"The only way I can show them is being out there and playing.

"You always want your fans to have faith in you and the only way they'll do that is by me performing well,"
