Carlisle splash out on Blackburn striker Garner

Carlisle United have broken their transfer record to sign young Blackburn striker Joe Garner in a deal that could be worth £150,000.

The 19-year-old scored five goals in 18 appearances during a four-month loan spell at Brunton Park last season, and for his services the Cumbrians will pay an initial £140,000, rising by £10,000 if they win promotion to the Championship.

Garner has signed a three-year deal with the League One club.

"We have had to work hard to secure this one, but he is a player who has already demonstrated what he can bring to the club," Carlisle managing director John Nixon told the club's official website.

"We are all delighted that we have finalised the deal. He is an investment both for the present and the future."
