Burnley deny Reid takeover reports

Burnley have dismissed reports they are in negotiations with a consortium headed by Peter Reid over a possible takeover of the club.

It has been claimed in the national press that a takeover at Turf Moor, headed by the former England midfielder Reid, is imminent.

The Clarets accepted Mike Garlick and Brendan Flood onto their board of directors last season but maintain they are not "seeking any interest from outside parties".

Flood said: "We have had no contact from any consortium, or from Peter Reid, and even if we did it would be a waste of time.

"We have just got ourselves into a position to take the club forward and we have our own plans to do this over the coming weeks, months and years."
