Cole: Chelsea must keep Kakuta progress low key

Joe Cole believes Chelsea must keep the spotlight off Gael Kakuta and allow the talented teenager to develop to his full potential in his own time.

Joe Cole believes Chelsea must keep the spotlight off Gael Kakuta and allow the talented teenager to develop to his full potential in his own time.

Kakuta hit the headlines when Fifa initially banned Chelsea from signing any new players until 2011 after the club were found guilty of inducing the 18-year-old to breach his contract with Lens two years ago.

The teenager made his first full start for the Blues in their 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw with Apoel Nicosia in midweek.

But Cole, who made his first-team debut at West Ham at the age of 17 before moving to Chelsea believes Kakuta must be allowed to develop gradually.

The England midfielder said: "He has a lot of skill and has a big future for Chelsea and France, but we need to keep the pressure off him, have him play a game here and a game there and enjoy his football.

"He should not have too much pressure on him. He has all the talent in the world and just wants to learn.

"He's very intelligent, he knows what he wants and is a really big player for the future, but we need to keep the pressure off him so he can keep learning."
