Southend United midfielder Jean-Francois Christophe believes Gael Kakuta should have resisted his move to Chelsea and stayed with Lens.

Like Kakuta, Christophe came through the youth system at Lens and has spoken to people at his old club about the exciting Chelsea prospect.

Chelsea still have a transfer ban hanging over them due their deal for the French teen and former Portsmouth midfielder Christophe told tribalfootball.com: "I have heard he was great player as a youngster but I think when a club like Chelsea want you, you need to take the opportunity.

"It happens in football, but in my opinion I think he should have stayed a few more years at Lens before he made the move.

"I had a good education at Lens because it is very technical in France, the football, so I enjoyed it and it has taught me a lot going forward. "
