Florent Malouda has warned Yuri Zhirkov he faces a battle if he wants his spot in Chelsea's midfield.
"Every player who joins Chelsea knows there will be competition," said the French winger.
"When you have ambitions to go far in every competition you must have a strong squad so there is naturally competition and everybody is ready for that.
"That's our job and we train hard to prove to the manager we deserve to play and to make sure we stay in the team. Last season I was performing really well. I had a stronger season so I'm still progressing and I'm close to my highest level."

ess holding,joe right,lamps centre,yuri left
Malouda and Zhikov have a problem. Lampard is the best player for the right or left of the Diamond. Joe Cole or Deco are the best at the tip. I Mikel plays Holding then Essien has to play right side. Lampard is wasted in the attacking role. He scores goals by coming from deep where he can sense the right moment. On currant form our strongest midfield would be Essien holding Lampard right side Malouda left side with Deco or Cole at the tip. In the EPLe have not played a really good side yetbut Against Porto in the CL we were not very effective so lets not get to carried away. If Cole can get back to his best he could make the difference but with no pre season thats not a given. Come on you blues
Well said you are almost there. We want our Malouda of 2006 world cup back as soon as possible!
