Chelsea confident youth production line now proving critics wrong
Chelsea believe they're silencing the critics of their youth system.
Against Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday, Chelsea fielded three players aged 21 or under — Gael Kakuta, 19, Daniel Sturridge, 21, and McEachran. Ray Wilkins says they will remain in the first-team picture even when Frank Lampard and Salomon Kalou are fit.
"We hope that these young men coming through now will be the mainstay for a few years to come," he said. "The academy have worked really hard in the last couple of years to produce young lads. It’s coming to fruition now."
