Chelsea captain Terry: I set Sturridge straight

Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed he pulled Danny Sturridge aside earlier this season to keep him on the right track.

Sturridge played just 19 minutes of Premier League football in the first four months after his summer move from Manchester City.

But the 20-year-old has impressed in the last few weeks in the absence of the injured Nicolas Anelka and African Cup of Nations players Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou.

Terry, one of a number of the squad to give Sturridge a pep talk, said: "He was frustrated but with Anelka and Drogba starting the way they did he was never going to play. It's as simple as that and we told him straight. To now come in and play the way he has will give the manager a problem."

He is better than Kalou and I don't understand why Kalou was picked ahead of him. Kalou should be sold because he dosn't even get in the Ivory Coast team.

A real talent & smart too, great to see him appearing in the 1st team over the last few matches & looking very impressive indeed, a asset for both club & country.

I doubt if when Sturridge jpoined Chelsea he thought he was instantly going to tke over from Drogba an Anelka? Seriously? Anelka was golden boot winner last seasonand Drogba? Well we ll know he is invaluable a player you are ever likely to have. DS is for the future. Any playing time he gets is brilliant experience for him. Just bide your time Danny. You are brilliant prospect but don't let it go to your head. I hope the Chelsea management have explained this to him. Personally I think he is a brilliant prospect and will get his chance to shine possibly in the 2011-12 season as Chelsea look to freshen their squad by then.
