Chelsea boss Ancelotti planning for January market

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has drawn up January transfer plans, despite their FIFA ban.

The Sun says Ancelotti fears his squad is not strong enough to survive the loss of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and John Obi Mikel to the African Cup of Nations in January.

And he has decided he cannot wait another 14 months to make the signings he needs to strengthen his ageing side.

Ancelotti is concerned an injury to Nicolas Anelka would leave his team short of firepower at a crucial stage of the season.

He does not want to run that risk and will ask owner Roman Abramovich to sign an international goalscorer, even if the player will not be eligible for the Champions League.
