Chelsea went momentarily five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a fighting 2-0 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

A 23rd minute goal from Florent Malouda, which was teed up by Yuri Zhirkov, put the Blues in pole position before Salomon Kalou, who replaced Malouda, slotted home in the 81st minute to send Carlo Ancelotti’s men ahead of Manchester City who take on Arsenal today.

The news was worse for Wolves who dropped further into the relegation zone and are in desperate need of some points to drag themselves out of trouble.
