Central Coast’s McGlinchey happy to not have week off
Central Coast Mariners midfielder Michael McGlinchey said he was happy to continue training and playing while the rest of the team took a week off.
The 23-year old was on international duty with New Zealand last week for games against Honduras and Paraguay while most of his teammates were enjoying a week away from the club but he said he wouldn’t have had it any other way.
“The boys got a week off but it was good for me to continue training, keep my fitness up and play the teams that we did, it was obviously very beneficial,” he said. “Paraguay were a fantastic team, we were unlucky in the first half, they gave us a bit of a runaround but in the second half we could have done much better.”
Tomorrow night, McGlinchey returns to A-League action as the Mariners take on second-placed Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium and the former Motherwell and Celtic man expects a very tough meeting.
“Everybody is talking about them being the form team and we’re doing pretty well ourselves, so I think it will be a pretty good game, but we know their strengths and weaknesses, and they are something we are going to have to exploit,” McGlinchey added.
