Central Coast’s McGlinchey happy at new home

Central Coast Mariners off-season signing Michael McGlinchey is happy at his new home.

The New Zealand-born former Scotland youth international joined the Mariners during pre-season from Celtic after not getting regular game time in the Scottish Premier League.

Now, the 22-year old has found himself in Australia and is enjoying some brilliant form in the A-League.

"I just wanted to play every week and wasn't getting that chance with Celtic," he said.

"I got my agent to contact clubs in Australia and the Mariners gave me a chance. So far I'm loving it.

"I couldn't be happier on and off the field, I love the coast. It's a great lifestyle and the club has been great to me."

More recently, McGlinchey made another big step in his career when he was called up to the New Zealand national team for next month’s friendly against Jordan.

"That's very exciting, a real bonus," he added.

McGlinchey and the Mariners take on Sydney FC at Bluetongue Stadium tomorrow with kick-off at 3:00pm.
