Celtic to strip Brown of captaincy to lure Arsenal’s Campbell

Celtic boss Neil Lennon may strip Scott Brown of the captaincy in a bid to lure Arsenal defender Sol Campbell to the club.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon may strip Scott Brown of the captaincy in a bid to lure Arsenal defender Sol Campbell to the club.

The 35-year old is reportedly considering an offer from the Glasgow giants but it is believed he will be on significantly less money if he is to make the move to the Scottish Premier League.

Lennon understands that and hinted that he may use other things to get the deal over the line.

When quizzed if Brown would start the season as captain, Lennon responded: “That could change over the next few weeks. I have not made my decision one way or another.”

Those comments indicate that Lennon is keeping the position open for Campbell who may need something extra to get him to Celtic Park.

“We made a strong pitch to Sol Campbell,” he added. “It’s a tougher sell now than before with a lack of money to compete against the Premier League clubs.”
