Celtic boss Mowbray: I will be here long-term

Tony Mowbray is confident he will be in charge of Celtic next season, no matter what happens in the remaining months of this campaign.

Under increasing pressure to deliver the Active Nation Scottish Cup as his rebuilt side prepare to fall 13 points behind Rangers later today in a championship race which is all-but run, the man who replaced Gordon Strachan in June insisted he plans to see out his four-year contract.

Asked directly if he views himself as being in situ to oversee this for the long term, he answered without changing tone: “I do. I signed a four-year deal. I’m here to build a team and a club that can be successful for long, long periods. How do you do that? You bring in quality because quality is consistent, and, ultimately, what you need is consistency.

“People totally understand what I do and how I build teams. There are no grey areas. If you want a team that plays expansive football . . . it can be like a roller-coaster at times and you are going to have days where you are going to lose some goals and you are going to have days where you have some great victories, and, hopefully fantastic football. That’s the journey you go on.”
