Castillo joins Chicago Fire on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk
The 26-year old Mexican will saddle up with the Fire as their Designated Player and will become available once his International Transfer Certificate goes through.
Castillo’s loan move has an option of becoming permanent if all parties can agree down the track if he is wanted by the Fire.
Fire technical director Frank Klopas said the signing of Castillo, who has had a previous loan spell with Manchester City, was a major coup for the club.
“Nery is a young, competitive player who will be a dynamic force on the pitch and we are very excited that he has decided to make the Chicago Fire his new home,” said Klopas. “He understands the tradition, honor and passion that comes with wearing the Fire badge and is committed to leading our team towards another championship.”
