Jim Cassell is delighted Dedryck Boyata has been handed a chance by Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.

The youth coaching guru is now heading City's international academy in Abu Dhabi.

"It is a great boost to everyone at the Academy to see the door to the first team opening again," Cassell told the Manchester Evening News. "You need that feeling that if you are good enough, work hard enough and listen well enough, you have a chance.

"Of course I am biased, but I believe we still have a number of young players capable of stepping up.

"I have been waiting for Dedryck's debut to happen because I always felt he would be good enough if given the chance. He has the temperament.

"People know about Kieran (Trippier) and Andrew (Tutte), but maybe the sight of Abdi (Ibrahim) making the bench against Blackburn surprised a few.

"He is an excellent box-to-box midfielder who was with the youth set-up last season, and has got stronger from playing with first-team players this season."
