The Sun says Pompey have been plunged further into crisis by a £1million lawsuit from former skipper Sol Campbell.

Campbell has issued a High Court writ against the Premier League strugglers in a bid to get money he claims he is owed in unpaid bonuses.

But Pompey are fighting the claim from the man who led them to FA Cup glory in 2008 and have referred the matter to their lawyers.

Campbell, 35, quit Fratton Park in July at the end of his £90,000-a-week deal.

But bonuses which he believes were included in his contract by former owner Sacha Gaydamak have still not been paid.

Now he is suing the club, who are already £35m in debt and teetering on the brink of going into administration.
