Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou was happy after his side held the highly-rated Gold Coast United to a 0-0 draw at Skilled Park yesterday.

The Roar were widely tipped to go down in their opening A-League encounter of the 2010/11 season after losing their three previous matches against United but they held their nerve to grab a point away from home and against the odds, pleasing the coach.

“I was really pleased with the way the guys went about it for the whole game,” Postecoglou said.

“I thought we were really dominant, particularly in that first half.

“But to the boys credit, when we had to defend in the second half we did that well.

“Hopefully this gives the players a little bit of extra belief now because they’ve worked really hard.”

The Roar will not be in action in week 2 as they have the bye but return the following week to host reigning champions Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, August 21.
