Boogaard set for first Adelaide United start
Adelaide United defender Nigel Boogaard is set to make his first start for the club in next week’s Asian Champions League clash with Pohang Steelers.
The former Central Coast Mariners man will more than likely step into the central defensive position as regular defender Iain Fyfe is out of the match with reigning Asian champions because of suspension.
Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar said that there was every chance Boogaard would line up in the starting eleven in Pohang on Tuesday.
“I think so,” Vidmar answered on whether Boogaard would probably replace Fyfe.
“We’ve probably got a couple of options there, but we think Nigel is certainly a very solid player and he’s fit in quite well since he’s been here, so he has an opportunity to slot straight in.”
Boogaard signed with the Reds in November but joined them at the conclusion of the A-League season to be a part of the ACL campaign in which they currently top Group H with three wins and a loss from four matches.
