Bolton Wanderers Paul Robinson has jumped to the defence of Fabrice Muamba after his tackle on Wigan Athletic's James McCarthy.

Robinson reckons the dressing room will now rally round the England Under-21 international, who he feels has no case to answer.

“Fab was obviously a bit concerned about the player, as everyone was,” he told the Bolton News. “There was no malice in it, he just went for the ball and it was unfortunate that the lad looked like he got his leg tangled in the grass as well. It’s one of those that looked worse than it was.

“I’m sure people will make a big issue out of it on telly and highlight it. Someone was bound to come out and say something.

“But Fab’s not that type of player – he’s a great asset to our team. His work-rate is fantastic and the lads will lift him up and make sure he doesn’t get too worried about it.”
