Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has stepped up his interest in Celtic's 7million pound rated winger Aiden McGeady, reports the News of the World.

McLeish, who has a £40m war chest to spend in the January transfer window, travelled to Dublin to run the rule over the 23 year old in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off against France.

McLeish, who admits Birmingham need more options, said: "I still think we are bit thin in the wide areas and up front."
