Birmingham boss McLeish wants more Gardner-type signings

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish wants more signings this summer in the mould of Craig Gardner.

The January arrival from Aston Villa scored his first goal for the Blues in their 2-2 draw with Everton.

“He’s the sort who won’t let you down,” said McLeish about the lifelong City fan who recovered from a virus to start against Everton.

“That’s the type of player we want, with desire and commitment. You see brilliant talents who don’t have the fire and hunger but who burn out.”
