Sunderland striker Darren Bent says they should have beaten Liverpool yesterday.

Bent struck a brace in the 2-2 draw.

He told safc.com: "We played well against Arsenal and we managed to dig out a 1-1 there, then obviously we had the disappointment of the defeat to West Ham on Tuesday.

"But the boys bounced back today and in certain areas we played them off the park. I think the result was a bit unjustified considering the way we played today."

Bent scored from the penalty spot to restore parity after Sunderland went behind to a freak Dirk Kuyt goal and nerves were a factor before he struck his first of the day.

"Reina is one of the best in the business at saving penalties but I just decided to hit it as hard as I could and as true as I could and luckily it's ended up in the back of the net.

"It was great to get the two goals today but overall I thought the team performance was magnificent."
