Barcelona have confirmed captain Carles Puyol has suffered an injury to his left calf.
The 32-year-old defender was forced out of Spain's first training session on Tuesday complaining of pain in his left leg and he returned home to Barcelona, where he underwent tests.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque called up Osasuna defender Nacho Monreal as Puyol's replacement in his 21-man squad ahead of the world and European champions' Euro 2012 qualifier against Liechtenstein and friendly with Argentina.
