Barcelona’s Villa jumps to defence of Liverpool’s Torres

Barcelona striker David Villa has jumped to the defence of his Liverpool counterpart Fernando Torres.

Barcelona striker David Villa has jumped to the defence of his Liverpool counterpart Fernando Torres.

The Reds goalscorer is under fire for poor performances in the World Cup for Spain thus far but his national teammate has backed him, saying that his form has been great despite recent injury troubles.

“We know what state his knee was in a month ago and I don't agree with those who say his performances have been below par,” Villa said.

"The only blame you can pin on him in the opening stages is that he hasn't scored.

"His desire to be with the team has been spectacular."
