AZ Alkmaar midfielder James Holland is hoping he can get some opportunities with the Dutch club’s first team.

The 21-year old Australian has been with the Eredivisie outfit since January last year but has not yet grabbed a senior appearance despite consistent performances as captain of the reserves.

This season, however, he plans to make that step from substitute to getting game time with plenty of hard work.

“I would like a little bit more first team football but I came to a big club and you have to be a little bit patient, so I’m still working hard,” he told Australian Football Weekly.

“Sometimes it gets a bit difficult but, like I said, it’s a fantastic place and a fantastic club so that keeps me sane.

“I’ve played with a lot of boys who are more talented than me, a lot, but it’s definitely about hard work. That’s what it comes down to.

“That’s the reason I’m here and that’s the reason I’m going to get to the top.”
