Atletico Madrid to trump Barcelona for Asenjo

Atletico Madrid are set to beat Barcelona for Real Valladolid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

Atletico chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin met with Valladolid president Carlos Suarez this week to thrash out terms over a fee for the youngster.

Although the talks were positive, no agreement was struck. Both clubs agree that Asenjo will leave for his buyout clause - £5 million - but Atletico are still to decide whether they will pay all cash, or include players in their offer.
