Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea is staying grounded after his heroics in defeat to Barcelona.

After the match De Gea received praise from both coaches while Barca striker David Villa, who was denied on more than one occasion by the teenager, also lauded the Spain Under-21 keeper.

De Gea, however, is keeping his feet on the ground, saying: "I'm grateful to the fans for the ovations and for the praise I've received, but I must be calm because I've still got a lot to learn. I'm very young.

"(Barcelona goalkeeper Victor) Valdes came to congratulate me personally and I really appreciate that because he's a great goalkeeper."

He added on his club's website: "All the team have worked and fought to do well against Barcelona. We've tried to get the draw right until the end, but we didn't have the luck and now we can only continue training and thinking about the next game against Valencia.

"When the fans chant your name it's incredible, it gives you goose bumps. The fact that (Barcelona coach Pep) Guardiola praised me in the press conference is very nice, but I insist it's not just me, but the whole team that has done a great job."
