Aston Villa boss MacDonald ripping up O’Neill transfer plans

Kevin MacDonald is ready to rip up the transfer plans of Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa.

Kevin MacDonald is ready to rip up the transfer plans of Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa.

The Mirror says MacDonald, 49, is the bookies' favourite to get the Villa Park job full-time after the club's opening day 3-0 win over West Ham.

Proposed moves set-up by O'Neill for Spurs' Robbie Keane and Aiden McGeady, now at Spartak Moscow, have been scrapped as Randy Lerner seeks to cut costs.

And MacDonald is under orders to tap into the successful talent bank of homegrown youngsters he helped establish as reserve team boss.

MacDonald also wants to better utilise the club's disillusioned stars like Steve Sidwell, Curtis Davies, Habib Beye and Nigel Reo-Coker, who can all expect to start tomorrow against Rapid Vienna.
