Zois added to finalise Melbourne Heart squad

South Melbourne goalkeeper Peter Zois has been signed to a one-year deal by new A-League club Melbourne Heart.

The signing of the 32-year old former Willem II and NAC Breda stopper has finalised the club's inaugural playing list for their debut A-League season.

Zois was initially installed in a coaching role at the Heart but has now been elevated to the playing squad as back-up for number one keeper Clint Bolton.

"We need someone for the now, and Peter will provide us with that assurance, but we will continue the search for the best and brightest young goalkeeper as a long term back up to Clint Bolton," said Heart coach John van 't Schip.

"Peter has been with the Club since day one as our goalkeeper coach, and throughout this time, he has shown himself to be a model professional.

"We looked at a number of goalkeepers throughout the pre-season. Our policy since last October, when we could start contracting players, has been not to sign players unless they are of an elite quality. Peter has shown without doubt he belongs in that category, as a person and a footballer."
