Zimbabwe striker Ngwenya joins New York at training

Zimbabwe international Joseph Ngwenya has joined New York Red Bulls in training in a bid to win a contract for next season.

The struggling MLS club are unable to make any signings because of the closed transfer market but interim coach Richie Williams says they are monitoring the 28-year old closely.

"Sure (we're looking). We can't do anything now, but for sure. Any time you have people in you look at them, see how they do,'' said Williams. "I've seen enough of him in MLS that I know he's a good player, a talented player.

"So we're helping each other out; he's helping us out with the numbers and we're helping him out by getting some training in the process. You're always looking at good players. But there's nothing we're talking to Houston at this time, nothing can happen until the offseason.''

Ngwenya is currently out of contract after recently finishing a stint with Turkish club Antalyaspor and says he would love to return to MLS after experiencing the competition with LA Galaxy, Columbus Crew and Houston Dynamo from 2004 until 2007.

"I wouldn't mind it. I think it would be nice for me. I like this city, my girlfriend lives here,'' said Ngwenya.

"It'd be nice. There's just a couple of games left in the season, but if the options comes up, great. If not.''
