French Zinedine Zidane says Manchester United ace Paul Scholes is the greatest.
A World Cup winner in 1998, he won just about every club honour he could and remains one of only two three-time winners of the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
He went toe to toe with - and got the better of - most of the great midfielders of the 1990s and 2000s - the likes of Figo, Rivaldo, Keane, Davids, Makelele and Pirlo.
But when asked who was the toughest opponent he faced in his career, he had no doubt - a little ginger-haired asthmatic from Salford.
Zidane said: "Paul Scholes is the complete midfielder. He is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation."
